When hens stop laying: molt, spent, and next steps
A pause in lay can be molt, short days, or a spent flock. Decide with records, not a bottle.
When hens stop laying
First check the egg log and day length. Then look at molt (feather loss, rest). A flock past about 18 months of lay is often spent for commercial purposes.
Do not dose a flock because eggs dropped. Call a vet if birds are sick, not just quiet in the nest. Mark long-running layer flocks as spent so you can plan replacement, not guess.
