Give space, or the colony will take it as a swarm

A strong colony that runs out of room does not wait for your harvest plan. It rears queens and leaves with half the workforce.

Before they jam

Add a super or a brood box while there is still drawn comb or a flow coming, not after every frame is packed. Congestion plus a nectar flow is the classic swarm setup.

If you see swarm cells

Treat it as a decision, not a surprise. Either give space immediately or make a split so both units have a queen path. Crushing cells and hoping rarely holds a colony that is already committed.

Weak colonies

A light, queenless, or poorly populated hive will be robbed and then collapse. Combine with a stronger unit before it becomes a pest magnet. Two struggling hives are not “more bees.”

Work with the biology: space, splits, and honest combining beat fighting a swarm after it is in the tree.
